Jingle’s Poetry Rally–“Hope”

Hope

A stretch of white.
You scrape a knife
through black, then indigo,
layer darkness,
across the horizon.
Reach for a tube of
chestnut brown,
squeeze the contents
onto the lower half
and smear.
Payne’s grey sky.
A slash of crimson,
a miniscule orb
in orange.

This post is for Jingle’s Poetry Rally, Week 28.

Beautiful image, Victoria, that stretched on and on; gorgeously accompanied by a poem that was just as sensate! Really fine work.

I’d wondered if you painted the picture until your explanation. Watercolour is such a difficult medium, and you have used the elements of it so skilfully in this poem.

Interesting. Always intriguing to see what poets and writers draw from paintings–two sides of the creative, joined together. You’ve certainly captured the image here, and brought it forth anew. Short but sweet.

    Happy Thursday!

I think you capture the painting into words perfectly. I love how while reading your poem it does create a beautiful picture in my head. Is hope the miniscule orb of orange? I like the tightness and brevity of this poem. 🙂
