Hope
A stretch of white.
You scrape a knife
through black, then indigo,
layer darkness,
across the horizon.
Reach for a tube of
chestnut brown,
squeeze the contents
onto the lower half
and smear.
Payne’s grey sky.
A slash of crimson,
a miniscule orb
in orange.

I’d wondered if you painted the picture until your explanation. Watercolour is such a difficult medium, and you have used the elements of it so skilfully in this poem.

Thank you, Vivi. Watercolor’s challenge has driven me to acrylic! So much more forgiving. Victoria

Interesting. Always intriguing to see what poets and writers draw from paintings–two sides of the creative, joined together. You’ve certainly captured the image here, and brought it forth anew. Short but sweet.
Happy Thursday!

I think you capture the painting into words perfectly. I love how while reading your poem it does create a beautiful picture in my head. Is hope the miniscule orb of orange? I like the tightness and brevity of this poem. 🙂
