Monday Morning Writing Prompt–Labor Day

United States or Soviet?

Today, in the USA, we celebrate Labor Day–a day that honors the role that work plays in our lives and a festivity that marks the end of summer vacation.

For today’s prompt, write a poem, essay or short fiction about work. Perhaps you would like to write about your own job, or your dream job. You may want to honor the value of work.or share your experience of unemployment. If you’re a student, how do you envision your life in the work force? If you are a stay-at-home mom or domestic engineer, tell us about your contribution to your home and family. Do you want to gripe or tell us a funny story about your experience at work? The field is wide open for plowing.

Please link your poem using Mr. Linky and take a few moments to visit other participants. Thanks for joining and happy Labor Day.

  6. Hello, as a British person I don’t really understand labor day. One thing that confuses me is that `Don’t wear white shoes after labor day’ phrase that I’ve heard a few times. Could anyone explain that to me?

    Great post.

    • I think the whole white shoes thing just relates to the end of summer…and it used to be somewhat sacrosanct. Not many pay attention to it anymore. And you’re not “supposed to” wear them until Memorial Day. Labor Day is a tribute to the value of work. It’s become more of an end-of-summer/beginning of the school year celebration and many go camping or have picnics or barbeques for the 3-day week end. Today, walking the dogs, I noticed a lot of people “laboring” on do-it-yourself projects.

I posted one, but the job is the dysfunctional relationship, not work work. So I managed to twist around you labor day theme. Still…it’s a job.
