Recipe for Disaster for Meeting the Bar
Before beginning,
gather all necessary ingredients
as listed in your political platforms.
1.
Divide them into two
unequal parts
then toss into an iron-clad pot.
2.
Stir to maximum dissension
over a slow heat
then reduce the temperature to a simmer.
3.
As soon as logic has dissolved
empty the contents
into a large bowl
and discard any solution.
4.
Knead and flatten what remains
before submitting
to a vote.
5.
Be sure to scramble
the Mess-age
thoroughly
before serving
to the media and masses.
6.
Recess the senate
and leave it to someone else
to clean up after you.
I was browsing through a cookbook last night and the verbs popped out at me, so that’s where I went for today’s poem written for dVerse Meeting the Bar where I’m the bartender today. The prompt is to use verbs as a tool to liven up your work. I hope you will join us. The doors will open at 3:00 PM EST. I’ll be a bit late to join in since I have a hot date with the hubby. Hope they don’t dock my pay!
I’ve italicized verbs AND words derived from verbs. Cookbooks are full of them.
Very fun!

Very very interesting effect at that Victoria – the blend is so perfect, couldn’t have been a better take at it.

I think the first thing we should do is cut the ingredients in half–maybe then the concoction wouldn’t boil over so frequently. Great idea for your successful poem, Victoria. Also, thanks for a prompt that is helpful as well as challenging.

A perfect & clever illustration of your prompt & premise, Victoria; really enjoyed the juxtaposition of politics & cooking; no passive voice for you.

Well – I think we have always been politically divided – it is the pride in our country that seems to have gone astray – so many people think living elsewhere is better, that the Constitution is “antiquated”. Of course, the media does little to help as they are so biased (every one, not just lib or con)

Very clever! I liked how you accented the verbs. You gave me quite the challenge with this prompt. I need to work on using “active verbs” more in my writing. Thank you for the poem and your prompt 🙂

I live this Victoria, I can almost smell the filibuster…and I like that you used Jane’s poem as an example, too, of using a modest amount of effective verbs..

Food and Politics: Two things I spend a lot of time discussing with others and you weaved such a recipe here which rung the bell of unhealthy greasiness of it. Well thought. Crisp writing.

haha…i like…i love political poems…and yes, our nation is so divided politically and for such various reasons as well…all about what is important to me…and so decisive there is little opportunity to come together….nice texture to this in using a recipe….

This seems the same everywhere.. and then you can always make the whole experience be a matter of vanilla or strawberry icecream for dessert… Thank you for the idea.. I will try to figure out something… hmmm

This recipe seems all too familiar. Unfortunately it, or one of its variations, is way too commonly used. Way too often the ‘mess-age’ seems to be scrambled. I wish there would be some more palatable variation! Smiles.
