considering trees

sometimes i am stuck
in the mind-skin of the child i used to be
when i’d climb my pepper tree
to hide from all
that i was not,
would never be.

this morning i awoke,
sun glancing through full branches
of my pear tree,
reminding me that love
is quite enough

and that whatever this day brings,
whatever the years may hand me,
i shall always find a tree.

Written for Marina Sofia’s prompt for dVerse Poetics in response to the question: “Describe a morning when you awoke without fear.” I also had in mind an earlier  prompt of Shanyn’s that I was unable to write to.

To be in a pear or pepper tree would mean you have sturdy footing, and whatever happens you can hideaway like you did as a child in that safe knowledge that you are quite secure in knowing you can return whenever need be. Like much

  4. beautiful write, Victoria. I did that a lot when I was younger; my best friend would be with me, and we’d sit in the tree and play gameboy all day.

I guess we are all the kids we used to be as well as the adults we are now. And I like the idea of still finding trees as we grow older.

Marvellous Victoria, feel so much warmth and joy in this piece and I reckon an interesting synchronicity too in the way we both interpreted Marina’s excellent prompt… With Best Wishes Scott

  26. It really is true that love is enough ..as i surely see it now..living without the physiological..heartful..and spiritual ability to give it OR received it for over 5 years as such..

Love is life..either given or received..

Anything else reeks of death to me..

Even in youthful life contrary..to what can be life

    with Sacred Love..

instead of dead soul existence at any age…

    Love does have roots..of tree..of life…
    anything else topples and falls..
    again..as far as i see..

Lately I have a quiet corner of a bend in a nearby river, next to a farmer’s field, nestled in fir & scrub oak, where I meditate, and shape the fresh love-clay into another day, another journey; love your trees.

I agree, having a tree is essential–even if a public or fantasy one–and especially if what used to be a hiding place is now a friend.
