Signz ‘n the Hood–Weekly Photo Challenge

The WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is asking for “Signs.” Whether straightforward or implied, our lives are informed by signs. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, leaves beginning to change remind us of the approach of cold weather.

I would love to drive the seedier neighborhoods of Reno and capture some of the more outrageous ones that give Reno an mostly undeserved reputation, and perhaps later in the week I make be able to carve out a few minutes to do just that. In the meantime, I’m using my currently time-crunched walk, dogs in tow, to share some signs right here in my own neighborhood.

  1. I especially like the duck crossing sign. I see many momma ducks and their fuzzy ducklings crossing the road. While cars won’t stop for mere humans, they will for these little families, thank goodness!

a nice collection of signs…I always wondered if the animals knew to use there crosswalk…they seem far too often off the beaten path…. the homemade sign made me smile…but they definitely have a point.

  3. We used to have one near our cottage in UK: “careful, toads crossing” and at the peak of the breeding season volunteers used to slow the traffic and sometimes carried the rare amphibians across the lane.

Here in the Midwest we have two seasons: Winter and Road Construction. I had to read those signs carefully driving home from visiting my kids in the next state tonight. Sunday night when traffic is light, they close the Interstate ramps completely to get more work done. I much prefer the “Turtles Crossing” and other wildlife reminders I see on the rural roads.

I feel for the tomato growers! Mine got stolen by the birds, the squirrel and our dogs. I didn’t even bother this year.
