My Philosophy of the Artist’s Life

You live the life of a poet or artist.
A dog marks his place on earth.
Someday, someone will discover that
you were there before him.

An old one, revamped. For those of us who have no children to carry on our presence on earth, this has to be, in part, an underlying factor in our choices.

So happy to have Brian Miller hosting again at dVerse where he’s asking us to rethink WHY we do what we do…in other words, our personal philosophies.

You’re saying the dog peed on your poetry and/or artwork, obviously not finding it as important as you did.

  5. We all want to make some impact, to think our time here was special in some way…. We’ve never met and probably never will but I am glad you have touched my life through your poems and comments.

I think we all make our mark. Dogs do it in their way; and we humans do it in our own way….including with our books & blogs!

We all try to mark our presence on this earth, don’t we? Perhaps we’ll be discovered; perhaps not. Does it matter? I don’t know. But I thank you for the thoughts.

Do we mark our territory in life..what parts would we claim…How will we be remembered…Aren’t we all trying to leave our signature in some form. Four lines sure do convey a large message.

  17. This is great, Victoria–I agree with Glenn’s comment on the richness within your brevity. I’m still pondering what to write about “philosophy”… Blessings, Dell

Ha. I love that you equate our art with a dog taking a piss. marking their territory. That kinda irreverence I dig. A very apt metaphor. Ha.

too much good stuff packed in a tenacious tin of brevity. I look at 50 years of my poetry, & do often wonder, what of it, or me, will survive my tenure on this plane, will make any sort of difference to anyone; meanwhile I write, I rant, & I make plans.
