Seven AM–dVerse MTB, Imagism

Seven AM

winter sunshine
slips,
unimpeded,
through half-
opened shutters.

pools of light
pour,
splashing on the bed.

Eureka! The Internet decided it was okay for me to post–so must get this linked quickly to dVerse MTB where I’m hosting Meeting the Bar. I ask you for poetry along the lines of William Carlos Williams or Hilda Doolittle (H.D.). Have fun with this–please join in. I will try my best to respond timely if Time Warner will be so kind as to cooperate. Because of the nature of the prompt, I’m not going to post an image today…that’s what the words are supposed to do.

I think the half open shutters could be my eyelids still trying to grasp what time it is.

  7. Beautiful! Your words did convey an image. Including the word “winter” to describe the sunshine produced in my mind a much different image than I would have had if you had simply said “sunshine.” Peace, Linda

  10. So lovely to see the sunshine in the morning. Thanks for your prompt but it is now late Friday for me but i first came across The Wheelbarrow in a book for young people ‘Love That Dog’ a sort of poet story by Sharon Mcreech.

Love the shutter effect, Victoria, and the succinct capture of that particular time, minutes of the early morning, waking up and meeting the day.

  14. There is nothing like the sun shining onto a bed…so inviting and warm. Such a bright image.

When better to shine than in winter? May the naysayers be left speechless in her rays, upon their beds.

I felt like runny frosting as I read your poem. That might be how the sun feels as it ‘pours’ through the shutters and onto the bed. Great visuals! I liked it very much!

Very atmospheric and story-telling in spite of being concise–hard to accomplish.

I love sunshine through shutters and I love how the sunlight pooled and splashed on the bed in this. Great use of those verbs!

I so like this. When I am an old old lady and thumbing through a book of new-Imagism, this one will be bookmarked as I proudly tell any and everyone, I knew this lovely lady and isn’t this just an incredible poem?

  30. Ah.. De just said it… the verbs are what makes it… (and I do remember your verb prompt…) This is just splendid.. there is something tied to the title that add to the whole poem.

I truly think these imagism poems are all in the verbs. Yours – slips, pour – are perfect. And those half-opened shutters. There’s a story there, as well, just like with the wheelbarrow. Love this, and loved this prompt. Thank you, Victoria.
