simplicity

the echo of your words
the haunting emptiness
of promises not meant
the lies that steeped in
darkest night ring loudly
clashing with the sweet-
ness of your voice, your
smile, your tender touch

i cleave to gentle, simple
things in these last years

Today De invites us to share a quadrille, a poem of exactly 44 words excluding title, with the poetry community at dVerse. Please join us for this fun prompt here. The word to include this week is ECHO, in any form you can conjure up.

Very melancholy, and true of many episodes in life. Your words are the story. 🙂

such contradiction and that is exactly what loving someone can be, the hurts and lies all so mixed up with memories of sweet words, i enjoyed this for feeling it gave me, that I am not alone in believing promises once whispered sweet

Some words do echo….sometimes the ones we would like most to forget. I enjoyed the ambiguity, perhaps irony of the closing lines.

The ending lines are sad Victoria ~ It made me think that the present times are very complicated & contradictory in messages ~

  13. A very poignant write Victoria, the incongruency between touch and words is so powerful here. So many people do not like to disappoint others and end up making promises they cannot keep xxx

  17. Oh I can so relate to this one, Victoria ❤️ especially; “the lies that steeped in darkest night ring loudly clashing with the sweet-
ness of your voice.” Sigh.. Beautifully executed.

  18. This is so sad. The line “promises not meant” struck me most as something one doesn’t want to hear, but often hears in echoes.

A lie told repeatedly conjures its own reality, and emotions can be, are manipulated by false breezes as much, or more, than actual wind. When our beloved asks for honesty, the words must still embrace candor affection.

  21. Those false words are still something to cling to…maybe that’s why it’s so hard to love the silence.
