how it rained
the day you stormed into my life
earth flipped on her back
stared at daytime stars through leafy branches
and laughed
summer walks on ocean’s shore
scents of lavender, roses
gentle kisses and ardent promises
until the night you stole away
(how it rained)

LOVE everything about this one! Earth flipping on her back — the topsy turvey feeling of those first days of love. And the circular nature of the poem from the title to the last line – oh how it rained. Such energy in this one.

That first love. It is a lot like a storm. Good think we’re young then.

You had me at /daytime stars/–that & the image of the earth flipping onto her back, ready for romance. Odd that ardor, lust, heat are not enough too often when the fever ebbs & the bathroom noises begin.

Love the three parts of falling in love, of being together and that end… like the seasons, but still I feel it’s more.

Splendid and gorgeous. I love the imagery in this and then….the rain. So sad but methinks you found another, even better.

This was drawn from my first teenage “love.” I just wrote of the feeling, not the actual event.

Blues lyrics, jazz standard phrasing… heartbroken. A smokey voice in a darkly-lit lounge. Another drink sipped and a request sent with the waiter to have the band play it again. That’s your poem!

How devine this is! That closing parenthetical is icing on the cake – love it when a final line stops you dead in your tracks!

That silence.
The storm within my head
Is now easing
You pummelled me with your words
Incessantly.
Dark clouds loomed
How you rained down
Your avalanche of abuse
all four seasons in one,
No more will I cower,
Cover my ears
That silence is now deafening.
