joy

word after word arises
from the morass of her
muddled mind—memories,
loves losses tumble
onto blank pages
like flakes of snow
in wide open fields

the poet inhales sweet spring,
moldering leaves
in piles of autumn
revels in creation-bliss
waits for the unknown

Welcome to another round of dVerse Quadrille, the 39th, hosted by Bjorn. A quadrille is a poem of exactly 44 words, not counting the title. This week the word that must be included in the poem itself is BLISS, in any of its forms. We hope you will join us. The pub opens at 3:00 PM EDT. The prompt is open all week.

Soooo late to the reading 😦
    MOST especially love these lines:
    “loves losses tumble
    onto blank pages
    like flakes of snow
    in wide open fields”

Having lived a number of years on 15 acres of land in rural Iowa, you’ve pictured this beautifully….I remember watching those huge snow flakes drift down, the ones you can catch on your tongue, and seeing them land on the corn stalk stubs in the fields…it’s before the blanketing…when you can see them dot the land. Thanks for bringing back this memory to me…smiling I am.

I love the gentle way your quadrille unfolds, Victoria, as in:
    ‘loves losses tumble
    onto blank pages
    like flakes of snow
    in wide open fields’
and the contrast of sweet spring and
    ‘moldering leaves
    in piles of autumn’.

  15. Flakes of snow – wide open field… that line is beautiful – Some fields remain pure and clean with maybe little animal prints – others get used and marked up – Makes me think how we express our memories – some are easy and neat to write – others ring us out and cause us to have fits – and almost bleed onto the page…

Oh lawdy. I am dying over this! It’s like you’re talking about me. 😉

Just teasing; this is gorgeous, as are all of your fabulous poems.

This is my favorite line: “loves losses tumble” … because “tumble” could be a verb or a noun (as in, “She loves loss’s tumble.”)

  24. So beautifully written, Victoria. Somehow the phrase “morass of her muddled mind” made me think of my mother in the early stages of her Alzheimer’s.

Excellent poem about poetry; always an intriguing journey–and the quote is great too. I love a thought you conjured for me, that every poem is a journey latched to the backs of words, and that the “unknown”, the surprise, the twist, the epiphany awaits us somewhere along the path; perhaps one of the reasons we are drawn to the writing.
