Blessing Way–One Shot Wednesday

Paperwhites

Blessing Way

Wind curls around a corner of the lodge,
brushes her cheek like a lover,
tousles night-black hair.

Pungent-scented paper-whites bend lower,
touch loamy soil,
prepare to die.

Earth stretches to embrace daybreak,
surrenders flecks of frost,
drinks in warmth.

Facing East, raising a weathered face
into early light,
blessing creation,

Wisdom Keeper lifts her
outstretched arms,
and sighs.

Sensational Haiku Wednesday–Theme: Directions

Archangels

Angel of the East,
blow forth your gift of insight,
clarity of mind.

Angel of the South,
ignite us with your courage,
innocence and joy.

Angel of the West,
immerse us in reflection,
introspective sea.

Angel of the North,
seasoned wisdom budding forth,
grant us fulfillment.

In American Indian, Kabbalistic and other spiritual traditions, the Archangels are seen as guardians of the six directions: East, South, West, North, the Above and the Below. The seventh direction, the Within, represents the seed of the Divine within each person.

These are some of the symbols, including the elements and color, associated with the four directions I write about in these haikus:

East: Raphael—wind or air, yellow. Gifts: clarity, illumination, new beginnings.
South: Michael—fire, red. Gifts: courage, joy, faith, childlike innocence and humor.
West: Gabriel—water, blue. Gifts: introspection, dreams.
North: Uriel—earth, green. Gifts: completion, gratitude, maturity.

There are, of course, other variations or points of view concerning the four directions.

PLEASE NOTE: I WILL BE AWAY TILL NEXT TUESDAY WITH LIMITED OR NO INTERNET ACCESS. WILL DO MY BEST TO RETURN YOUR VISITS WHEN I GET HOME.
