January in the Desert

I am
a wild strawberry
woven among
low-lying oleander branches,

I am
the fear that brushes
by your body in
the darkness of a dream.

I am
cloud-fingers
slipping over
mounded slopes

of snow-capped
Santa Rosa mountains
bringing rain
and night.

I slap
the rounded curves of
wind-stroked cheeks
turned skyward.

I am the hummingbird.
I wait outside
your window
with promises of joy.

Snow Delay

“By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud, to guide them on their way.” Exodus 13:21

A billowing cloud,
a pillar to the south,
impedes our journey
to the desert.

Alien Clouds

You can understand why
Nevada has its stories.
Lenticular clouds
hover in the East—
horizontal orbs
ready to scoop you up
and carry you to places
unknown.

One Shot Wednesday–“Drizzle”

As the day evolves
from overcast
to sun to rain again,

the Artisan steps in
and brushes clouds
across blue skies—

wet-on-wet—
then takes a rag
and smears,

sprinkling sadness
into an otherwise
perfect moment.
