Today, I’m hosting dVerse Meeting the Bar where I’m sharing a modern version of an old French form called the LAI (pronounced Lay). I would love to see you join in. The rhythm of the form begs me to be a bit whimsical although the original purpose was quite different. Lean more here.

Blowin’ in the Wind
So windy outside,
the birds seem to hide
in trees.
They just seem to glide
like kelp on the tide.
Strong breeze.
I will stay inside;
I think justified.

The kelp line really grabs the reader. Sometimes a windy day makes me want to fly, it might be a bit rough to navigate though.

I am not a fan of wind, either. At least there it doesn’t feel like a blow dryer. We have 103 and windy.

I, too, felt whimsical relative to the limerick-like rhythms of the form. I wrote two poems, & tried to “get serious” –but no way. Yours has whimsey & heart.

a cute verse. i can understand the birds decision to stay tucked away in the trees. though i admit i might like to be one that would “glide like kelp on the tide.”

Love the birds as kelp… I can see them hiding from the wind… but I do like to go out in wind.

I’m too skinny–the wind has actually forced me to sit down to avoid being knocked over. I do love a breeze, though.
