Temptation
An Acrostic
(Eve)
Try not to think of how you’ll feel tomorrow,
Even God can’t know the wonder of this fruit.
(Adam)
My dear, don’t you remember words of warning?
(Eve)
Perhaps God’s trying to keep us from the truth.
Take this; come on. Just try a morsel.
A snake told me that we would be just fine.
The Tree of Life has nothing like this apple.
Indeed, it offers neither food nor wine.
(Adam)
Only a tiny bite, only this one time.
No one will ever know. HEY, this one’s mine!
An old one, linked now to dVerse Poetics where Mary tempts us to write about, what else, temptation. Crawl on over and see if you can resist!
This was wonderfully penned, Victoria! 🙂

Well done! A story as old as time. Reminds me of the birthday postcards my Methodist grandmother would send. She would use the letters of my name to begin a Bible verse. That would be her birthday greeting to me. My fondness for acrostics waned after several years of those! 😉

“Even God cant know the wonder of this fruit” is my favorite line here…but it is very full of wondrous lines and images. The word play (acrostic) is clever, too.

“Try not to think of how you’ll feel tomorrow”
So true! That’s how temptation gets its green card right there! It starts with complete amnesia regarding consequences…until later.

It does seem if one person is tempted that that person tries to tempt others to join in. Not only true in the Garden of Eden, but in today’s world as well. If someone is drinking heavily, they try to encourage others to do the same. Those tempted who ‘fall’ never like to fall alone. Glad to see you, Victoria. Loved your acrostic!
