It’s my turn to tend the bar for dVerse Poets’ Pub Meeting the Bar and for today’s prompt, I’ve gone back to the future and borrowed a form that Brian Miller created–the tenWord. Stop in and link up here, Thursday at 3:00 PM EST. Stop by–hopefully with a poem of your own, or just to read what others are sharing. I’m posting my poem in advance to give you a head start, if you like. (Don’t tell anyone, okay)?
Ten for tenWord
i.
the mountains
wrap themselves in mist—
a gauzy, white scarf.
ii.
your eyes speak to me
of untold pain,
of loss.
iii.
hot coffee
seeps throughout my body
and awakens my spirit.
iv.
a dark, overcast sky
covers the valley
with oppressive stillness.
v.
early morning—
the first dove call,
urgent, longing—without answer.
vi.
waiting rooms—
anxiety and impatience—
let’s get it over with.
vii.
lantana sprawls
underneath the trumpet vines,
purple and yellow blooms.
viii.
desert rains—
light sprinkles tickle.
we wish for a downpour.
ix.
a swath of white clouds
encircles
the Santa Rosa mountains.
My favourite is number (iii). The taste of coffee indeed gives us a taste of bitterness, and that taste may provoke a feeling of rage. I drink a lot of coffee.

A deep feeling of loneliness and longing, but also contemplative, and centered in a quiet contentment. These are really really good. Masterfully crafted. My faves are the 1st 3.

The 6th is always an irritant that I remember well. Patience is always provoked here. Great lines in all Victoria!

Perfect high desert Nevada-like gems, & wonderful uses of Brian’s imaginative form. I, too, like the first stanza, & the fifth. With my Miller’s Dozen, I accompanied each with one of my photographs; more fun that way; thanks for creating Funtime.

What an excellent set.. I find that as each micropoem creates a scene or a moment (just like haiku does) I find the sequence intriguing in that I want to connect the dots into a complete narrative. Then number ii and iv becomes key.. I just wonder how it would work if they came in the reverse order.. hmm. I see keen observation and a heavy burden between the different observations.

I think of the word “haven” in this piece. If it weren’t for the fact I know you’ve gone south to get-away-from-it-all, I would have also have guessed a “haven” from a medical trial. Either way, it’s important to drink in the many neat places in the states.
