autumn visits spring

outside my window
mockingbird sings lauds,
dove mourns,
a single leaf falls.

the leaves have started falling here as well and like each year it makes me feel a bit melancholic.. the passing of time.. love how you captured the moment with such few words and i too love the calmness of it

I really should not be reading death poems.
I am already a mess today after learning about the death
of a friend. But this is beautiful in its own way,
    and would honor any passing.

absolutely gorgeous!! Your first line sets the stages, and then each of the following gives a different scene…and that single leaf caught my breath. Did I already say, “Absolutely gorgeous!!”?

What a lovely serene thought. I know you have watched many leaves fall – in your work and in nature – they are all so unique and beautiful. this poem is perfection.

  7. The autumn leaf falls with such finality and softness, very apt metaphor for death. Loved it.

In practice I have seldom seen just one leaf fall, but of course it’s that first leaf you notice, announcing autumn or old age or the end of a life.

There is great calmness in this, Victoria. The single leaf letting go, oh so gently, makes for a meaningful jisei.

  13. To die in autumn, I think I would like that, so that overall the summers of my life outnumbered the winters. Nice take on the prompt. Peace, Linda
