A Petition to a Not-So-Long-Lost-Friend

As I sat and pondered the prompt for this week’s dVerse Poetics, absolutely nothing came to me. My care-giving responsibilities seem to have alienated my muse who I have neglected for want of time. And so, without her help, I crafted this rather pathetic poetic request:

A Petition to a Not-So-Long-Lost Friend

I didn’t notice when you left.
You stole away one night.
My spirit, now is so bereft
without your gentle light.

I’ve sought within, without, above,
below—just all around.
No words you left for me, my love—
no feelings, thoughts or sounds.

My days are full. Yes, blessed are they.
But still I miss you, too.
If you’ll return to me, and stay,
I’ll make more time for you.

My fickle muse, come back to me.
Inspire my words once more.
I’ll listen closely, you will see—
write poetry galore.

The doors to the Pub open at 3:00 PM EDT–please join in with your own poem and enjoy the work of others. The prompt is to write a poetic letter to whomever, whatever you choose.

The poem you write when you can’t write a poem! I think it’s kinda cute. 🙂

  5. Your muse better be careful or she’ll figure out you can do this poetry thing on your own. 😉 Peace, Linda

Oh, yes, I understand this one so well. I’ve been struggling to get back into the groove for poetry for several months now. These Muses have a mind of their own, and I don’t know if begging or pleading is the answer, or that stern talking to you mentioned in your comments…

I like this…..those muses are so elusive…sometimes they just disappear without warning and other times they are all up in your face and you can hardly think straight for all the stuff they are throwing at you. Looks like you caught a glimpse of them again for this great poem so things are looking up 🙂

The elusive muse. The moody muse. Yes! There are those moments when I really miss her

Wishing you the best, and keeping you both in our thoughts and prayers. My muse hides from stress, fickle thing !

  12. As long as you are inspired to write like this….your muse is still peeking around a corner somewhere…;)……or is that mouse? hehehe
    Nice one! Loved the rhyme.

It will come back, Victoria. The curious thing is, my Muse was getting really lazy, but since I decided to write a poem a day in April, it is back at its desk.

If this is what a muse leaving looks like, a lot of us will usher ours out the door! This is lovely! I don’t believe she’s gone. She just needed a nap. 🙂

ah, but alas it does seem with this little number, that your muse still does inspire. still I hope your plea assists in reconnecting.

  17. Oh Victoria – You know it is just that you are taken up with other things right now – your Muses is patiently waiting and will be right by your side when you are ready. Hope today has been a good day for you and your husband – smiles

Fickle muses indeed. This is a nice take on this prompt. I have a feeling we all write this letter to our muses who disappear without a bit of notice and only come back when they desire.

Ah the reality often pushes the muse away but I am really surprised at your take on this. Smiles.

I contemplated writing to my own muse too but would not have been as poetic and humorous as you.

  24. Amen. Mine’s gone missing too, along with all my files, pictures and software, hacked from my laptop. I’m using the old one, which was replaced with good reason: all the Word files were corrupted.

I hope your muse returns soon.

Well, sometimes indeed our muses seem more like a long lost friend than a constant companion. I guess when she is around we have to work her as hard as we can – lest she disappear again!

I hate it when the Muses move into absentia; your sense of humor shines through, regardless. Now, damn, I need to stir the Muse-Pot, to find a hook for my own poem. See U tomorrow.
