Ignored–dVerse Open Link Night

Ignored

“The drop is a small ocean.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

They walk by,
enveloped in concern,
oblivious to oceans of beauty
that surround them—

• undulating water in the stream caressing the rocky earth beneath
• a tiny leaf unfurling her greenness on a distant branch
• mockingbird chortling joy upon his treetop perch
• little mouse, concealed beneath hosta’s broad umbrella
• droplets of dew flashing seductive rainbows from every blade of grass
• and me.

I was the first to open,
now one among the many,
lost in a swath of golden beauty.
I offer my delight
only to go unseen.

I have been, for the most part, unable to be a part of dVerse for a while. Back toward the end of March, Mish invited us to write a poem from the point of view of nature. In a feeble effort to play catch up, this is mine, posted for OLN.

How true that we miss much of the beauty of nature, absorbed we are in our human things. We miss so much in each other too…

Funny, I did not know this was from Nature’s point of view and saw it as you. As if you were walking through a field, watching it wake and showing deep beauty in the smallest of worlds, and that you too were such an obvious phenomena. I enjoyed both versions

  3. Not feeble. Not an attempt. This is mindful observation pure and true.

Alas, we do so often walk on by without noticing the shyer, less flashy types of beauty. I think it’s described with gentle panache, if there is such a thing (and if not, there should be!)

  6. I love the structure of this poem and your use of bullet points shows nature’s voice converging in order to be heard and seen. The more aware I am of all the amazing gifts nature has to offer the more I realise that there is still to discover. Your final stanza is such a gem and it is so lovely to see you on the trail again ☺💖 xxx

It’s wonderful to have you back at the bar, Victoria! I like the structure of this poem very much – it’s not often poets use bullet points and they make the list at the heart of the poem stand out..You are not unseen to us.

Yes, we are sometimes so wrapped up in ourselves that we fail to see the beauty all around us.

I miss seeing so much that is around me when I am on my walks, and when I’m not, even when I am trying to be more aware. Hopefully that flower attracted the bees.

How true, Victoria. Nature’s beauty all around us. We are so absorbed, a rainbow of life goes unnoticed

How is this weak, Victoria? It is sublime. The strength lies in observation.

Victoria, there’s nothing feeble, about this gorgeous poem. I understand, we all have our moments, which we need solitude, to heal ourselves. In my case, it’s more pronounce, during my bouts of depression.
