Sevenling (Paradox)

Beneath branches of our rose-bush hides a tiny bud;
finch builds her nest in the dense foliage of the fragrant Jasmine;
mama duck hustles her little ones, taking cover under a low-lying shrub.

Hawk circles above in the cerulean sky, looking for prey;
dandelions pepper the lawn, scatter their seeds in swirling winds;
Bougainvillea bursts into an array of celebratory color.

In the East, snow mocks spring.

    Your poem is inviting me to come and look further under bushes and foilage into a lovely early spring picture. I particularly love the imagery of the “Bougainvillea bursts into an array of celebratory color”

    Wonderful concluding line! We have been having spring-like conditions here, but it’s April, so we’ll likely have more snow.

    “dandelions pepper the lawn, scatter their seeds in swirling winds;” Especially love this line! I’m so glad the hawk doesn’t spy the baby ducks!!! I need positives tonight 🙂 And yep, in Boston the snow mocks spring indeed!

    Spring is such a fickle creature – there are several nest already in my plum and quince trees – safe from hawks. This is a lovely sevenling. I loe the line about the dandelion. Too early for those yet here but soon.

  20. Victoria. This poem is brilliant!

    My favorite lines:

    Hawk circles above in the cerulean sky, looking for prey;

    Ah! mother-nature sure serves good food on earth’s soil for the hawks to eat and be healthy. I love this so much. 🙂

    Those long lines weave a dream-like atmosphere… and then that snow brings a wave of cold realism (and a nicely contrasting short line).
