Darkness is Only a Degree of Light
When the year is at its nadir
and darkness overtakes
the light, someone,
somewhere
lights a
candle.
The flame eases into your
consciousness and
you understand
that we were
created
to see.
Welcome all the children of
Earth. Revel in your need
to join in celebration.
Now’s the moment
to set the world
on fire.
that’s really deep, to think that we were created to see, but of course, we were created to use all our senses.

This is very inspirational, with words creating very vivid messages. Again, I like the metaphors you used.
My favorite lines are:
“When the year is at its nadir
and darkness overtakes
the light, someone,
somewhere
lights a

This really spoke to me, with a human voice. Not one straining, not one begging for attention, but as subtle and powerful. really, great work

Thought provoking piece. The title alone had me thinking. Then you leveled me by saying “we were created to see” told a great story. I pray that all of us who do see the candle in the night will set the world on fire. Well done.
Happy New Year!

I like the concept of nadir, too. Kind of scientific, kind of metaphysical.

Beautifully written and illustrated with the free-form flame.
I like that someone,
somewhere
lights a
candle.
Not a million people, not even a thousand or hundred…
someONE and then the flame catching on allows for the moment to set the world on fire! Beautiful.
Hope your New Years in filled with warmth and light.
